Open Science Community Parkstad!

  • Opening 12:30-13:30

Parallel Session 1: 13:45 - 14:30

In this slot, you can choose between these sessions:

  • Dipping Your Toes in Open Science
    Open Science Level: (almost) no experience
    Interested in Open Science but not sure what it is or why it matters? This introductory session is for you! It offers an overview of Open Science, highlights its importance and explains key concepts such as open access, open methods and FAIR data principles.
  • How are you open and transparent but prevent people from stealing your stuff?
    Open Science Level: some experience
    Sharing materials, data, and code is easier said than done. By default, copyright applies to all so-called “works” you produce, prohibiting others from using them. But if you deposit them in the public domain, anybody can use them without even crediting you. In this session we will navigate the murky waters in between these two coasts.
  • Open Science and Teaching: how to integrate Open Science in your curriculum
    Open Science Level: some experience
    Want to help students do research more transparently and confidently? In this workshop, we’ll explore simple ways to introduce preregistration, data sharing, and the Open Science Framework (OSF) in the classroom. Leave with practical ideas you can put into practice right away.

Parallel Session 2: 14:45 - 15:30

In this slot, you can choose between these sessions:

  • Burger- en inclusieve wetenschap (Citizen & Inclusive Science) [in Dutch]
    Open Science ervaring: geen ervaring nodig!
    Een begeleide dialoog waarin wetenschappers en inwoners samenwerken om het onderzoek van morgen in Heerlen vorm te geven.

    Interested in Open Science but not sure what it is or why it matters? This introductory session is for you! It offers an overview of Open Science, highlights its importance, and explains key concepts such as open access, open methods, and FAIR data principles.
  • The transition to Open Source: what are the alternatives, and how do you decide what to switch to?
    Open Science Level: some experience
    The benefits of open infrastructure are clear: no funneling of public funds to commercial corporations, no vendor lock-in, control over your tools, and the ability to improve and innovate as a field. However, what are the alternatives you can switch to? What do you use instead of Qualtrics, SPSS, NVivo, or EndNote? In this session we will discuss the available alternatives as well as how to make them work for you.
