Remote working, employee voice, and turnover intention

Participant Information and Informed Consent

Study: Remote working, employee voice, and turnover intention among neurodiverse employees
Open Universiteit Nederland — Master's thesis Management

What is this study about?

This study examines the experiences of neurodiverse employees with remote work. We investigate whether remote working is associated with the extent to which employees speak up about their needs and ideas at work (employee voice), and whether this in turn is associated with how likely they are to stay with their current employer. This study is conducted as part of a master's thesis at the Open Universiteit Nederland.

Who can participate?

You are eligible to participate if you:
- are currently in paid employment (at least 8 hours per week)
- are 18 years of age or older

What will you be asked to do?

You will be asked to complete an online questionnaire. This will take approximately 10–15 minutes. Questions cover your work situation, how often you work from home, the extent to which you speak up at work, and how you think about your future with your current employer. Some questions relate to neurodiverse characteristics and background information (such as age, education, and sector).

Is participation voluntary?

Participation is entirely voluntary. You may stop filling in the questionnaire at any time, without giving a reason and without any consequences. There are no advantages or disadvantages associated with participating or withdrawing.

Anonymity and data protection

This questionnaire is fully anonymous. No names, email addresses, or other directly identifying information are stored. No IP addresses are recorded. The data collected cannot be traced back to individual respondents.

Data are stored on a secured server of the Open Universiteit Nederland, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The data controller is the Open Universiteit Nederland (contact for data protection: fg@ou.nl). Anonymous research data will be retained for the duration of the study and for a maximum of ten years thereafter, in accordance with OU guidelines for research integrity.

Your rights under the GDPR

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, and object to the processing of your personal data.

Please note: Because this questionnaire is fully anonymous, submitted responses cannot be linked back to individual participants after submission. As a result, exercising GDPR rights is not possible once the questionnaire has been submitted. If you have questions prior to completing the questionnaire, please contact us using the details below.

Note on the AQ-10

Some questions are based on the AQ-10, a brief questionnaire about neurodiverse characteristics. In this study, the AQ-10 is used solely as a scientific measurement instrument to map variation in self-reported neurodiverse characteristics. The AQ-10 is not a diagnostic instrument, and the results will not be used to determine whether someone is autistic.

Ethical review

This study has been assessed by the Research Ethics Committee of the Open Universiteit (cETO) through the light track procedure and has been approved as low-risk research.
